Gloversville Police

PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, 8/3/21, between 3 and 7pm the Gloversville Police Department will host its fourth Neighborhood Engagement Unit event of 2021 at Darling Field with access available from Kingsboro Avenue and Newman St. While walking teams will target the surrounding neighborhoods in ward 5 with information about available community resources, this event is structured to have more of a “block party” feel, like previous GPD events at the field. The band Flame will begin performing at 3pm. Pizza from Cornerstone Mobile Counseling and ice cream from Stewart’s Shops will be provided free of charge while supplies last. The Police, Fire and Public Works departments will have displays. Many community service agencies will have tables set up for resources available to help with things like food and shelter insecurity, home winterization and child safety seats. Narcan training will be available at Darling Field and door to door in the area. Please see the attached flyer for a list of community organization participants.

The event will also be the 2021 start of GPD participating in Senator James Tedisco’s Safe Summer Bike Helmet Program, now in its 23rd year. This program provides Officers with “tickets” to reward youth wearing a bike helmet with a free ice cream cone or the ability to get a free bike helmet for those not wearing one. Officers will be on the look out to issue these tickets at the event and throughout the City for the rest of the summer.
