This year Gloversville participated in the Olympics of Visual Arts statewide competition for the first time. Four students from Boulevard Elementary, Bryn Wojeski, Grace Davis, Crickett Antis, and Peyton Dillenbeck worked for 3 months on an artistic problem. They had to imagine and illustrate an artist as a superhero.

While this may seem like an easy task, the students needed to back their illustration with research on artists, drafts, rough sketches, verbal explanations, and present everything on a GoogleSlides presentation. To top it off, due to being in different cohorts, the students could never work on this project together: so they met twice a week on zoom meetings, worked in a GoogleClassroom and on Google Docs, and had to combine four different drawings into one final piece.

The students ended up designing a movie poster similar to big superhero movies like Avengers or the Justice League. Their four artists are represented: Leonardo Da Vinci, Keith Haring, Georgia O'Keeffe, and MC Escher. The poster was drawn, then scanned, then colored in using Pixlr.

The winning teams were announced on May 20th, and Boulevard's team came in first place for their level and category (of Illustration at the elementary level) and also won Most Creative Solution beating out all participating schools grades K-12!
