Park Terrace “goes pink” and raises $600 for
breast cancer awareness
During a “Pink Day” assembly on Wednesday Oct.
28, Park Terrace students and staff presented a $600 check to a
representative from Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville in
memory of the sister of a Boulevard Elementary School teacher who
died Sept. 30 after a long battle with breast cancer.
When Terry Brindle died, her sister — third
grade teacher Barbara Coupas — and other family members requested
that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to Mountain Valley
Hospice.
Leading up to the assembly during the final
week of October Park Terrace students and staff made donations to
raise money in honor of Terry’s fight against cancer. During the
assembly, everyone donned pink clothing and sat in the shape of a
breast cancer awareness ribbon in the gymnasium.
Park Terrace has previously hosted the yearly
Relay for Life event to raise money for cancer research, and Terry
was an active participant for several years. Each Gloversville
school has a Relay for Life team and spends the majority of the
school year raising money for the springtime cancer walk, which not
only raises money for cancer research, but awareness as well. |
