Gloversville Middle School serves scholars in grades six through eight and is located on the western edge of the city, at 234 Lincoln Street, sharing a campus with Gloversville High School, located at 199 Lincoln Street.

Our mission is to provide a high quality educational program that challenges each scholar to reach his or her full potential. At Gloversville Middle School, all scholars will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and further develop the skills necessary for lifelong success. Each scholar will be provided the chance to mature, grow, and develop a strong self-concept while also being taught to respect individual differences. GMS scholars will work towards becoming productive citizens who value learning and do so in a safe, orderly, positive, and scholar-centered environment.

Gloversville Middle School is organized into three distinct wings, one for each grade-level, and serves approximately 590 scholars across those three grades. GMS serves as a key instructional and transitional piece between elementary school and high school, helping guide scholars as they explore and grow from childhood into young adulthood.

The building opens each school day at 7:30 AM allowing scholars to grab breakfast from the cafeteria and access their lockers before reporting to homeroom which begins at 7:50. GMS has a nine period academic day, including lunch, that starts after homeroom at 8:00 AM and concludes with dismissal at 2:25 PM. Students who are not in a club, playing a sport, attending tutoring, or some other supervised after-school activity, should leave school grounds promptly at 2:25.

All GMS scholars will receive instruction across the four, core content areas; English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, in addition to a full complement of special area classes across the disciplines of; Art, Business, Health, Music, Physical Education, and Technology. In addition to core content, and special area classes, all sixth graders will also be enrolled in a grade-wide Reading program. Seventh grade scholars will begin formal instruction in a Language Other than English (LOTE) for the first time, taking Spanish. Seventh graders will also have the opportunity to earn credit towards high school graduation via Keyboarding. In eighth grade, the LOTE offerings expand and all scholars will have the choice between Latin and Spanish in addition to having the option to enroll in Regents-level math and honors-level science courses as well. In eighth grade, GMS offers credit towards high school graduation in LOTE, Algebra, Earth Science, Computer Applications, and Studio Art. Exposure to the wide range of courses across several subject areas helps GMS scholars develop the competence and confidence to further explore and refine their individual interests as they head to high school.

It has become clear that the more time adolescents spend participating in adult supervised extracurricular activities - the better they perform academically, the better they behave, and the more they enjoy their time in school. To this end, in addition to the variety of academic offerings at GMS, scholars also have the opportunity to explore their interests outside the classroom and participate in a number of activities, clubs, and sports, covering a full spectrum of interests.
