What are we studying? Welcome to the 3rd Quarter! Students will begin the quarter by taking the NYS ELA Assessment April 17-19.  Following the assessment, students will be completing a D.B.Q. on the ancient city of Pompeii to supplement the Social Studies curriculum.  The month of May will be devoted to reading and writing various forms of poetry.  Classes will read Tuck Everlasting to complete the school year.

Grammar and Spelling - Students will also complete a NY Edits workbook in class.  Lessons included in the workbook review the mechanics of writing. The Grammar Workbook has been completed for the 11-12 school year.

Spelling and Vocabulary lists will be given bi-weekly.  The words will be chosen based on students' writing and the classroom texts.

Tuck Everlasting Vocabulary - Quiz May 24th:  axis, contemplation, disheartened, implore, melancholy, primly, recede, rueful, teeming, venture

Independent Reading Assignment

Each quarter, students will be required to read a fiction novel of their choice outside of class.  A project and writing assignment will be assigned for that book.  Only two class periods will be designated for working on this project.  The project and accompanying essay will be a part of each student's interim assessment.

The Fourth Quarter Project was assigned on April 5th.  Students will choose a fiction book to read and complete a Story Quilt Book Report!
