The kindergarteners at Meco are starting to look like first graders.
They are reading and writing simple sentences. They have gotten very
good at adding details to their pictures that go along with their
sentences. These sentences also include the many sight words that
they have been introduced to. The students have started working on
rhyming and word families. In Math, the students are beginning to
learn how to measure objects using linking cubes. The kids continue
to practice counting pennies, nickels, and dimes. They have been
practicing writing numbers up to twenty and are working on
recognizing numbers up to thirty. The children really enjoyed
playing the card game “War,” which helped them to determine who had
the greater number on their card. There have been some special
guests who have come to Meco recently. Miss Fulton County came and
read us the story The Tiny Seed, a woman from the Wild Life
Institute of Eastern New York came with a few animals, and The Ned
Show. The Ned Show taught us to “never give up” “encourage others”
and “do our best.” The children were able to purchase yo-yo’s after
the show.
