On Thursday, June 11,
two dozen local individuals, representing a variety of careers,
graciously gave of their time to provide McNab students with a
taste of what it would be like to walk in their shoes.
Students were encouraged to observe, imagine, question, and
explore possibilities about the future. (See pictures left and
below.)
Second and third graders
were delighted by their visits with Tia Woodruff, Price Chopper cake decorator;
Melissa Barclay, operating room nurse; Barbara Madonna, library
director; and Andrea Kunicki and Lisa Robare, speech therapists.
Fourth and fifth grade students each
selected four presenters, representing the career options
highlighted below:
- David Wilder, Kathleen Autilio, Dan
Krajcir, and Dustin Watson aroused student curiosity about
engineering and Project Lead the Way.
- Kristine Allen and Barb DeLuca
demonstrated the role of respiratory therapists with
appealing hands-on activities.
- Valene Synakowski charmed students as
together they explored career opportunities with music.
- Dr. Lisa Campione fascinated students
with x-rays and a human spine as she explained about
chiropractors.
- Anthony Casale, attorney, appealed to
students with his stories about career possibilities within
the field of law.
- William Dievendorf, water specialist
with H20 Pure, spoke engagingly about the job of bringing
healthy water into our homes.
- Artist Constance Dodge charmed
students with her artwork and guided them in thinking about
the ways art can be used in a myriad of occupations.
- Aaron Flynn and Georgina Carey piqued
student interest as they explained their roles working for
Target Distribution Center.
- Lynn Hughes, teacher and author,
captivated her audience with her love for both teaching and
writing.
- Michael Iannotti, golf pro, spoke
about his work at Holland Meadows Golf Course and delighted
students with a hands-on shot at swinging the club and
hitting a ball.
- Chauncey McCormick, owner of Grandma
Millie's Bakery, wowed students with her excellent pastries
and photographs of incredibly creative cakes.
- Jamie Risedorph, nutritionist,
intrigued students with her passion for healthy foods and
healthy living.
- Peter Schoonmaker, author, wild-life
photographer and furniture designer, captivated all with his
unique career journey and samples of his photography.
- Carl Tambasco, manager of Hannaford,
delighted students with his stories about careers within the
grocery industry.
