CAREER PROJECTS
|
McNab fifth grade students complete
a career project to expand their knowledge of the world of work.
After exploring the career of their choice, students present their
findings to their class, choosing one of the formats described below. Parents are invited and encouraged to work
with their son or daughter on this project.
Choice A. Written Report
Choose a
career to explore. Write a report describing the career, job skills,
working conditions, training, job outlook, and impact of math,
science and technology skills. Describe why you might like or
dislike this career choice for yourself. Your report should be neat
and easy to understand. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
are important.
Choice B. Personal Interview and Written Response
Choose a
career that you would like to know more about. Conduct a brief
personal interview with someone working in this career. Prepare
questions and videotape the interview. The interview should cover
the questions provided you in class as well as others you may wish
to ask. You will hand in the tape plus a brief written response
describing why you might like or dislike this career choice for
yourself.
Choice C: Visual Display
Prepare an
eye-catching and informative display about the career of your
choice. You may wish to create a poster, display tools of the trade,
have photos of people doing this work, pictures of a work site,
Internet information, magazine articles, etc. Your display should
contain information that conveys the career title, working
conditions, skills and abilities, training, job outlook, and ways
that math, science and technology impact this career. You will hand
in the project plus a brief written response describing why you
might like or dislike this career choice for yourself.
Choice D: Power Point Presentation
Prepare an
informative Power Point presentation. Describe the career, working
conditions, training or preparation, job skills, job outlook, and
impact of math, science and technology skills. In your presentation
include your personal response to this career. Do you think you
might enjoy this type of work? Why, or why not?
