Happy Holidays

With the count down to the holiday break on, there are many fun and exciting activities occurring at Kingsborough

Breakfast with Santa:

As all the student are eagerly anticipating the holiday break, let them come and welcome the arrival of Santa Clause at the traditional Kingsborough PTA Breakfast with Santa.  Plan to be at Kingsborough on December 6th from 8-11 a.m..  There students will be able to visit with Santa and tell him about all the secret presents that they truly want for Christmas. While the children visit with Santa or grab a bite to eat, parents can buy raffle tickets for many beautiful baskets provided by the friends and staff of Kingsborough Elementary School.  Some of the themes of the baskets range from Chocolate Lovers basket, Movie Night basket, Handyman baskets, Kitchen Helper basket, and many other great baskets. Come check out all the fun on Saturday!

Kingsborough Annual Holiday Concert

While the fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers have been preparing their students for the upcoming ELA exams, Mrs. Sponenberg has been very busy with the Kingsborough chorus!  Like the past three years, she has been working very hard with the fourth and fifth grade students in Kingsborough that have selected to be in chorus.  Together the students and Mrs. Sponenberg are inviting all the parents to attend our annual Holiday concert on Wednesday December 10th at 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.  Popcorn and Soda will be for sale in the lobby as well! We are all looking forward to a fun filled night of music and entertainment.

Second graders spreading some Holiday Cheer!

The Second grade classes of Mrs. Lane and Miss Myers will be spreading some Holiday cheer this month.  The two classes will take their annual trip to the Senior center located on Church street is Gloversville on December 15th.  While at the center, the children will sing Christmas Carols and visit with the Seniors.  Any second grade parent that wants to attend is more than welcome to.  Contact Mrs. Lane or Miss Myers for more information.

Kingsborough PTA Movie Night

Do you need a free night away from your children.  Maybe you might need to get some Christmas shopping done?  Have no fear Movie Night is here! Friday December 12th at 6pm drop your students off at the front door with a $2.00 donation for refreshments and have two free hours to get all your running around done.  Students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade will be watching The Polar Express.  Students in grade 4 & 5 will be watching The Santa Clause 3.  Supervision will be provided during the Movie night.  The PTA is requesting that that only  Kingsborough students attend!  So sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Holiday Sing-A-Long

On Friday December 18th, Kingsborough school will have our annual Christmas Sing-A-Long.  The students will enter the gymnasium at 9:30 a.m.  Any parents that are planning on attending please have yourself seated in the Gym at this time, in the chairs or bleachers that are provided.  Mrs. Sponenberg will lead the Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in their Christmas songs they have been working on.  This will be followed by our traditional Christmas sing-a-long that the audience and students will be able to sing along with.

Don't Forget about the English Language Arts Exams!

Unfortunately during this fun and festive time the teachers have been working very hard to prepare the students for the English Language Arts Exams.  This Exam which every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student in New York state takes will be given the week of January 12 through January 16, 2009.  Please make sure to mark these dates on your calendar at home!

Are you Turning in your Box Tops For Education?

Did you know that you can be helping your child's classroom pay for their field trips, and the school present other programs just from clipping "Box Tops for Education"?  Well lets get started Kingsborough families! For every "Box Top" clipped and turned in the school will get reimbursed 10 cents!  After a while they all add up to hundreds of dollars a year.  This money which goes to the student council, will be partially turned over to help your students class pay for bussing for field trips, or other activities that the teachers see fit.  Help support the Kingsborough cause, and keep on clipping those little rectangles off your boxes and have your students bring them in!

The Importance of Parent Involvement
From our Elementary Parent Spot
We hear it all the time - parents are their children's first and most important teachers. That role seems more clear cut when they are very young and need help with just about everything - from practicing how to tie their shoes to looking both ways before crossing a street. But once a child enters school, other adults assume the teacher role, leaving many parents wondering what they can do to support and encourage learning... in school and out. (Read more...)

Raising Children Who Love to Read
From our Elementary Parent Spot
Reading is undoubtedly the most important skill your children will learn during the elementary years. With education and practice, children learn to read and then transition these skills into reading to learn. When they learn to read well, all their other learning, both in and outside the classroom, becomes much easier. (Read more...)

Schools and families together: Helping raise children of character
From our Elementary Parent Spot
During the elementary years, children learn a lot about how to get along with other children, make new friendships, tackle schoolwork with confidence and take on more personal responsibility. How well they handle these new experiences is directly related to the lessons they learn at home and in school about good character.
