Parents reminded to use proper
drop-off zones at schools
When dropping students off at school,
please follow all marked traffic patterns.
Dropping students outside of designated drop-off areas
creates hazards for our students, and disrupts traffic
flow for all. At the high school, do not drop your
children off in front of the school. We want all
our children to be safe.
Not sure
where to pick up and drop off middle school students?
For visitors
unfamiliar with the designated student pick up / drop
off locations at Gloversville Middle School,

traffic pattern at the school and

pattern.

GHS Library Media Center is
the proud recipient of the National Endowment for the
Humanities' new initiative, Picturing America
Picturing America provides an innovative way for
citizens of all ages to explore the history and
character of America through some of our nation’s great
works of art. As one of the schools and public
libraries recently selected to receive the program, we
now have access to this high quality, free resource that
we can use to engage our students with discussions of
our nation’s art, history, civics, literature, and more!
The images of people, places, and events illustrating
American history give our students a chance to better
understand our country’s past and its ideals. Through
masterpieces such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington
Crossing the Delaware and Norman Rockwell’s Freedom of
Speech, our students' eyes can be opened to America’s
rich history and culture while also providing an
introduction to the broader world of the humanities.
For more information on the program, you can visit the
Picturing America Web site,
www.PicturingAmerica.neh.gov . Feel free to peruse
the site, and check out the images and the great links
included. Sit down with your kids and start
conversations about the beautiful masterpieces.

Information on Gloversville's Contract
for Excellence Plan now available
Those interested in finding out
information about the GESD Contract for Excellence (C4E)
Plan can do so by clicking
here. School districts who received an
increase of more than 10% in their New York State
Foundation Aid are subject to C4E regulations if they
had a school on the need of improvement list in the
2006-07 and/or the 2007-08 school years. The
Gloversville Middle School has been on the school in
need of improvement list the past few years. Ironically,
although our Middle School has met the performance
targets in 2007-08, the district has been included in
C4E for the 2008-09 school year. The public
hearing on the plan will be held August 4th.

Gloversville Masterminds academic quiz team places
second in Capital District
The GHS
academic quiz team came agonizingly close to capturing
the Capital District championship, losing a
heartbreaking match in the final to Guilderland High
School. Of the roughly thirty Albany-area schools
which compete in the Masterminds Program, fifteen make
the double-elimination playoffs. Gloversville lost
its first playoff match to Albany High, and then
proceeded to defeat Voorheesville,
LaSalle Institute, defending state champion
Bethlehem High, and then Schenectady High to make the
final four. GHS then avenged their earlier defeat
to Albany, placing Gloversville in the final pairing against
undefeated Guilderland. In that match, played at
Time Warner studios and taped for later broadcast,
Gloversville won 265-110. However, because of the
nature of the double-elimination tournament, the two
teams had to play each other again, with Guilderland
prevailing in the championship match 160-115.
Seniors Matt Millington, Cristin White, Tyler Horton,
and junior Jim Bielli all did an outstanding job during
their remarkable run through the playoffs. Millington
and White were both named to the four-person
All-Tournament team. Congratulations,
Masterminds!
Gloversville students win top prizes
at Saratoga Art Show

winning entry is shown below. Boulevard students Amanda
Bakyta won first prize ($100) for 3rd grade, and Lauren
Javarone and Emma Botch won second ($75) and third ($50)
prizes for 5th grade. The girls are private students of
GHS art teacher Deb Deming. Congratulations to our
talented young ladies.

Members of the Class of 2008 receive
acceptance letters from over eighty colleges
High school seniors know
that April is an anxious month, but the members of the
Gloversville High School Class of 2008 have many reasons
to smile. Our students have been accepted to a
wide variety of colleges and universities, including
some of the most selective public and private colleges
in the nation. A complete list of where our
students have been accepted is found
here. These opportunities are a result of the
students' hard work and dedication, and of the overall
strength of the academic program of our district.
Seniors have also enlisted in various branches of the
armed forces, while others have gained employment.
Best of luck to all in your future endeavors.

Park Terrace
one of three regional schools
participating in Proctors Theatre program
The fourth grade
classes at Park Terrace Elementary School represent one
of only three regional elementary schools that will be
participating in the Proctors Theatre’s “Stories that
Dance” program. The program takes an original story that
the students have written, and works with them to teach
them how to effectively choreograph, stage, and light
their stories. The students then work with members of
the Northeast Ballet Company, under the direction of
Artistic Director, Darlene Myers, to perform the show at
Proctors. Park Terrace’s original story is titled,
“Learning a Lesson in Fancyland.” Theater personnel
worked with the students each afternoon the week of
March 10th. Stories that Dance will be
performed at 10 am and 7 pm on Tuesday, March 25th
at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. Tickets are $7 and
can be purchased in advance at the box office, or on the
day of the event.
Celebrating
student achievement
Visitors to Gloversville High School will notice a big
change in the public areas surrounding the main office.
Located in the display cases are photographs of three
very special groups of students. First, framed
pictures of our Academic All-Stars, those who have
maintained a 90% average, are located across from the
main office. Secondly, large photographs of our
Dream Team, those students who have improved their grade
point average the most in a given quarter, are located
near the Principal's conference room. Finally,
near the school store, there are portraits of the GHS
Students of the Month. These students are nominated by
their teachers for excellent work, and receive a
limousine ride from Primavera Limousine Service to the
Rail Yard restaurant for a free lunch. Special
thanks to Mr. Jim Robare for his efforts to make these
recognition programs a reality and to Mr. Jason Harrod
and many others for their efforts in photography and
framing. For more information as to those
recognized, visit the Gloversville High School website
here.

Questions
about absences, early releases, and excuses
Often, parents are unsure what their responsibilities
are when their child is absent from school. The
Board of Education has a clear policy as to what
constitutes excused and unexcused absences, and what
parental actions are necessary to excuse a child from
school. A copy of this policy can be found
here.
