Subject Pronouns: These pronouns are used as the subject of a sentence, and they agree with the verb. They are usually found at the beginning of the sentence, before the verb. In a question, the subject is placed after the verb. Because Spanish verbs have specific endings, subject pronouns are not always needed and are often omitted.

tú (you, inf.) vosotros/as (you all, inf. Spain)
él (he) ellos (they, masc.)
ella (she) ellas (they, fem.)
usted (you, form.) ustedes (you all, inf./form. L.A.; form. Spain)
Reflexive Pronouns: These pronouns agree with the subject pronoun and are used in reflexive constructions, regardless of tense. Generally, they translate in English as “self” or “get”. At times they have no translation in English at all. Reflexive pronouns may be placed after the subject pronoun and in front of a conjugated verb or attached to an infinitive, positive command, or present participle.

Indirect Object Pronouns: These pronouns replace the indirect object of the verb in a sentence. The I.O. can be identified as that which answers the questions “to/for whom or what” the action of the verb is done. These pronouns are also used in “gustar” verb constructions. Pronoun placement is the same as for reflexive verbs.

The D.O. can be identified as that which answers the questions “who” or “what” in relation to the action of the verb. Pronoun placement is the same as for reflexive and indirect object pronouns. If more than one kind of pronoun appears in a sentence, it will be in “RID” order (Reflexive, Indirect, Direct). If an the indirect object pronouns le/les are followed by the direct object pronouns lo/la/los/las, the indirect pronoun changes to “se”.
