Conocer vs. Saber

Conocer = to know/be acquainted with/be familiar with

Saber = to know how to do something/to know a fact

In the present tense, both verbs have irregular "yo" forms:

conozco    conocemos                sé            sabemos

conoces    conocéis                    sabes       sabéis

conoce      conocen                    sabe         saben

In the preterit, both verbs change meaning.  Conocer = to meet (for the first time) and saber= to find out (beginning of knowledge)  Conocer is regular while saber is NOT.

conocí        conocimos                            supe            supimos

conociste    conocisteis                           supiste        supisteis

conoció       conocieron                          supo            supieron
