Students helping students; mentoring program models success

The Gloversville High School Mentor Program, in its third year, needs 10th, 11th and 12th graders who have a free period and a big heart to mentor Gloversville Middle School students. Students can mentor one-on-one, work in a subject area in which they excel, or help a teacher they had in the past. Mentoring can also be done after school.

The Gloversville High School Mentor Program was created with one simple principle: students helping students. The program has grown into much more.

The Gloversville High School Mentor Program gives Gloversville High School students a sense of need, purpose and self-worth. Knowing that other students are depending on them and looking to them for guidance helps to build self confidence in the high school mentors. The Gloversville High School Mentor Program benefits students by demonstrating to them that others care. It provides many middle school students a role model within their own community.
