Scitamard
to produce “The Face on the Barroom Floor"
Scitamard, the Gloversville High School Dramatics Society, announces the fall production of their 50th season, “The Face on the Barroom Floor”, an old fashioned melodrama by Tim Kelly.
The production is under the direction of Michael S. Burnett, who has worked on over thirty Scitamard shows, as well as being a seasonal director at the Glove Theatre, where he will be directing “Whose Afraid of Virginia
Woolf” slated for January.
The play is set in the 1890’s at the Teller House, a hotel in Central City, Colorado, and is based on an actual painting on the hotel’s lobby floor. The artwork has inspired the writing of a song, a poem, an opera, and this play. Like all melodramas, the show’s forlorn heroine is pursued by a villain and rescued by the dashing hero.
When he hears that Madelaine Mockingbird, the hotel’s maid, has been left money by an old miner, Roderick Rodent plans to deceive her and take the cash.
However, Jack “Toulouse”
Goodhart, a painter, sees through Rodent’s treachery and sets out to save her.
Various other odd characters populate the barroom, including a perpetually happy miner, a dour bar keep, and an Arabic entertainer. All of which add humor, mystery, and zany action to the show.
Production staff members include Mary Cassaro, costume coordinator and Pat
Zullo, photographer.
