Man
walking for peace visits GHS, talks to students
On Thursday, Sept. 22, literature and real life came together at
GHS, when the school was visited by Jack Sibbald, a man who is walking across America for peace. Much like the New York Times best seller, Peter Jenkins, author of the novel
A Walk Across America, Jack is walking across the country to get in touch with our great country and her people.
Students were treated to an impromptu lecture arranged by Jordan Antonucci and Ms. Sira. As word spread through the English department, as well as other classes, the lecture was moved to the auditorium to
accommodate the large volume of interested students. As students sat and listened, Jack told of the creation of the idea, his daily "schedule," where he's been, whom he's meet, how he has financed his
endeavor, and where he's going from here. Students were exceptional, engaged and an absolutely wonderful audience. Jack played music on his specially constructed guitar made by an individual he meet on the trip.
By the end of his first meeting with students, interest ran so high that a second speaking session was set up and roughly more than 100 students were able to listen and interact with Jack. It was a fantastic opportunity to Jack to get to know our great students, and for our students to make a connection between what they do in school and what and who is really out "there."
