Honor
roll numbers increase from last year
Students urged to
keep numbers rising
First
quarter honor roll and principal's list students were honored at a
breakfast on the morning of Jan. 6 for their academic
accomplishments. They were not only celebrating their individual
accomplishments, but also that of their school. School
officials say the numbers in the program are growing, with 72 more
students achieving this goal this year. Overall, 392 students in
grades 9-12 made either the honor roll or principal's list in the
first quarter this year, up from 320 for the first quarter last
year. But let's
not stop there. Principal Robert Orsino urged the students in
attendance at the Jan. 6 breakfast to keep up the good work, stay
on the honor role or principal's list, and continue to surpass previous
goals. "We
did fantastic last time, so let's keep doing it," Orsino said
to the students. Superintendent
Daniel T. Connor, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and
Instruction Roger Rooney, and board member Harry Wiggins were also
present at the Jan. 6 breakfast. All three of them echoed Orsino's
message, asking the students to continue to work hard through the
year as well as outside of school. Wiggins
reminded them that it is important to be good people, as well as
good students. "I'd
like you all to strive to be good citizens," he said.
"Everyday do three acts of kindness. Make Gloversville proud
of you." Increase
the result of many changes Assistant
High School Principal Richard DeMallie said the increase in the
number of students on the honor role and principal's list is the
result of many things, including the
new
homework policy, the updated disciplinary policy, and new
attendance procedures. He also credited the high school staff for
their hard work, saying that staff development initiatives have
also helped to increase student performance. DeMallie
said school officials are expecting student test scores to
increase as well. "We'd
like to see the numbers keep rising," he said.
