CSI
"Gloversville High School" C.S.I. comes to GHS
Students taking Honors Living Environment at
Gloversville High School have an opportunity to play
their favorite C.S.I. character and use their knowledge
to solve a mock murder.
The
unresponsive body of Principal Orsino was found in his
office April 1. The students needed to investigate and
determine, "was it foul play on April Fool's Day?"
Retiring faculty members and office staff have agreed to
take part in this "hands on learning activity". The
Honor students will use what they have learned regarding
the scientific method, human body and laboratory
procedures to analyze evidence found at the scene and
come to a conclusion regarding the manner and time of
death of the victim.
This
activity is the final honor's project for the year.
This is the third year Mrs. Orlando's classes have been
called upon to solve a murder. These projects
enable them to see real-life applications for all they
have been learning throughout the year.
Good
luck to all our students and a fond farewell to our
victim Mr. Orsino who is also retiring this year, you
will be missed!

The world’s greatest love
story takes to the streets in this landmark
Broadway musical that is one of the theatre’s finest
accomplishments.
Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” is transported to
modern-day New York
City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves
caught between
warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the
Puerto Rican Sharks.
Their struggle to survive in a world of hate,
violence and prejudice
is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and
relevant musical
dramas of our time.
Look for present/former
students and a few special guest stars along the
way. See you there.
Questions
about absences, early releases, and excuses
Often, parents are unsure what their responsibilities
are when their child is absent from school. The
Board of Education has a clear policy as to what
constitutes excused and unexcused absences, and what
parental actions are necessary to excuse a child from
school. A copy of this policy can be found
here.
Student of
the Month - Returning to Gloversville High School .

The Student of the Month program has been developed and
recreated by Mr. James Robare, Physical Education
Teacher. It is funded by Mrs. Rosemary McCabe, Business
Dept. Chairperson, and the School Store. Every month
each department chooses one student to be honored who
has truly excelled in a curriculum area. The students’
pictures are taken and prominently displayed for the
month, in our newly designed showcase. The honorees are
chauffeured by limousine to the RailYard Restaurant and
are treated to a delicious lunch. Gloversville High
School would like to thank the RailYard Restaurant
and Primavera Limousine Service for graciously
donating their services to support our efforts to honor
our students.
These students have earned this prestigious award for
their hard work, dedication, respect for others and for
being a positive role model for our school and
community.
Science
Department Attends BODIES exhibit in NYC
On
December 14th, Gloversville High School
science teacher Elaine Solan led her Anatomy &
Physiology classes on a field trip to New York City to
see the Bodies Exhibit at the South Street Seaport.
Also in attendance were members of the AP Biology and
Science Research classes and the Science Club, and
teachers Jeff Gardiner, Kate Brown, Trisha Bobowski and
Alison Siragusa. Parents accompanying the trip
included Susan Bluvas, Anthony Buanno, James Person
and Diana Sena. The Bodies exhibit shows real human
specimens preserved with silicone and dissected with
astonishing precision. Students were able to see
entire body systems. Since the goal of the
exhibition is public health, bodies showing evidence of
disease such as heart disease and lung cancer were also
on display. One full body specimen is dissected
completely in half, high-fiving itself as an amazing
example of bilateral symmetry. For those
interested in learning more, browse to http://www.bodiesrevealed.com/index-intro.html.
Ms. Solan, a new member of the GHS science department,
organized an impressive and worthwhile trip.
Gloversville Husky Football Team holds gift drive!
Football players, grades 8-12 went to Wal-Mart December
5th for a gift drive for local disadvantaged families.
About 35 football players bought over 100 gifts for
children between the ages of 3 and 9. These presents
are being distributed to elementary schools that need
gifts for families that could use some generosity over
the holiday season.
TOUCHDOWN!
On November
27th, the Laura S. Moyer Chapter of the National Honor
Society held the induction ceremony for new members.

from the eleventh and twelfth grades at Gloversville
High School: Andrew Ficili, Francesca Gifford, Joseph
LaPorta, Caitlin Lawlor, Samantha Nealon, Cierra
Phillips, Graham Thompson, Dustin Watson, Nicole Webber,
and Daniel Wehn.
Congratulations to these students for their fine

GHS
students, staff give the "gift of life"
On
October 3, the Gloversville High School Key Club, in
conjunction with the American Red Cross, sponsored a
blood drive at GHS. More than 50 donations were
received, including those from many first-time student
donors. Brenda Shultis, a GHS senior and
president of the Key Club, stated "everyone worked hard
to pull this off. I am very proud of them. I
think helping other people is important, and that is
what Key Club is about."
Key
Club is advised by Mr. Thompson, GHS math department
chairperson. This is the 15th year that such a
drive has been held. Thompson noted that each time
GHS has sponsored a drive, the students and staff of
Gloversville have donated amounts in excess of the quota
given to them by the Red Cross.
Syracuse
University professor visits Gloversville High School
On
September 27, GHS students enrolled in Syracuse
University Project Advance economics class were visited
by Dr. Don Dutkowsky of Syracuse University.
Professor Dutkowsky teaches the same Economics 203 class
at SU that Gloversville students can take at GHS.
He spoke to the seniors about their coursework, and
about how to make successful transitions to college
life. In his thank you letter after the visit, Dr.
Dutkowsky pronounced the students "delightful" and
stated how much he enjoyed their questions. During
his visit, he also remarked about what a
magnificent facility the newly renovated high school was
for the community. SU faculty visit the school
each semester as part of the Project Advance concurrent
enrollment program.
