STRIVE FOR 25 : Read to Succeed

We applaud and support the New York State Education Department in their recommendations, and encourage all students to read a minimum of 25 books a year.  Not sure what to read?  An excellent site to browse when searching for award winning and recommended books is the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC), "Great Middle School Reads" which provides several outstanding titles in its Booklists. Another great site to check out is the Carnegie Library list of "Books For Middle School Readers".  To use this site, just click HERE.

The following students from the Gloversville Middle School met the    25 Book Challenge and were honored on June 11th in the library.  These students met the New York State Board of Regents’ recommendation that all students read 25 books a year in order to maintain and improve their reading skills.  The Middle School principal and vice-principal presented each student with a gold medal and gift certificates.  Each student also received a reading logo T-shirt.  Pictured from left to right in the first row are: Zaneta Young, Richard Durrin, Rose Warner, Toni Smith, Rachel Sproule, Halee David and Kenny Poyfair.  Second row: Vice-Principal James Christopher, Isabella Young, Kyle Jackson, Priscilla Smouse, Keisha Johnson, Daniel Coffin and Principal James Flint.  Missing from the photo is Morgan Angel.
