Class Procedures and Expectations

Classroom Rules

  1. Be polite and respectful at all times.
  2. Follow directions the first time they are given.
  3. Work quietly.
  4. Be prepared.

I expect all of the children to follow these rules at all times. The behavior plan I use

in my room is based on a "strip" system. If a child breaks a rule the consequences are as follows.

1st offense- pull one strip =Warning

2nd offense-pull 2nd strip =miss ˝ of recess

3rd offense- pull 3rd strip =miss all of recess

4th offense- pull 4th strip =call home and/or go to principal

At the end of each day strips are put back and each child starts each day with all of his/her chances. At the end of the month students who do not pull any strips or are within monthly goals will be awarded a treat or special activity.

I expect all work that I assign each day to be turned in the next morning. Unfinished assignments will result in pulling a "strip". All unfinished work must be made up either at recess or it may be added on to the next day’s homework. The children will have some time to finish their work in class. If they use their time wisely, they should have only a small amount of homework.

Assignment Books

Each child will be getting an assignment book. Please check your child’s book nightly to make sure they have completed all assignments. I do not require a signature, but if a child chronically does not complete assignments I will contact you and we will make arrangements to sign the assignment book.

Go Home Folder

At the end of each week (Friday) I pass back all graded assignments that were completed during the week. Please look over all of your child’s work. You should also check your child’s folder or book bag nightly for any notices or flyers that may go home during the week.

Please send in a written excuse following each absence or tardiness.

Fourth Grade New York State Tests

Your child will be taking three very important state exams this year.

  • English/Language Arts Test--------------------April 17-18

  • Mathematics Test------------------------------April 23-24

  • Science Test---------------------------------Written (June 4)...Performance( May 29-June1)

We will be very busy preparing for these tests. You can help your child at home by

practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts and by making sure your child is reading nightly.

I am looking forward to teaching your child and working with you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
