Department of Transportation

Welcome to the Department of Transportation

Some facts about the GESD Transportation Department

The Gloversville Enlarged School District covers an area of 82 square miles. This includes the entire city of Gloversville as well as the Town of Bleecker and parts of the Town of Johnstown extending west to Johnson Avenue Extension and North Bush Road, East to Progress Road and Elmwood Avenue Extension at the Mayfield Town line and South as far as the Johnstown City line.

The elevation of the City of Gloversville is 1000 feet above sea level and the elevation reaches 1600 feet in the Town of Bleecker.

Transportation is available for all students who live outside the city limits of Gloversville. In the city transportation is provided only for Special Education students and Meco Elementary School students.

There are seven different school buildings in the school district: Meco, McNab, Park Terrace, Kingsboro and Boulevard elementary schools, Gloversville Middle School and Gloversville High School.

We also transport students to several out of district schools, such as Mayfield, Johnstown and Broadalbin-Perth.

School Bus Safety

Some tips to teach your children regarding bus safety:

square bulletStudents must cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus.

square bulletNever cross behind the bus.

square bulletWhen exiting the bus, students should check to the right and left before stepping off the bus.

square bulletStudents are to then move away from the bus. They should not go to the mailbox or anywhere else by the side of the bus.

square bulletStudents should look left-right-left before crossing the road.

square bulletIf the driver blows the horn the student is to return immediately to the side of the road from which they started.

square bulletInstruct your child that if they drop something outside of the bus to leave it where it falls. They should only attempt to retrieve the object with the driver or another adult’s supervision, when the bus has gone and the road is clear.

square bulletChildren should wait a safe distance away from the road as in inclement weather the bus may slide on slippery roads.

Bus Routes

Each year, due to changing demographics, there may be a need for changes and adjustments in bus routes. Also, pick up and drop off times may change within the first few weeks of school, but as drivers establish their routes there should be few changes or delays throughout the year.

Please let the office know if there are any changes regarding your child. If they are not riding the bus or are riding only in the afternoon or the morning we need to be notified. As always for student’s safety, drivers are not authorized to go by notes handed to them by the student regarding drop off at another address. All such notes should go to the main office of your child's school, and the school will notify the transportation department.
