Recently, the teachers and staff at McNab have been learning about the importance of movement in relation to brain research.

According to their findings, the more we move, the more the brain likes it, and the better our attention, energy and processing skills. Teachers have been discussing information from the book, "The Brain Rules", and trying out different ways to create movement opportunities in school. Occupational Therapist Robin Hill also gave the staff some quick exercises to try in class that promotes sensory input, and thus helping kids regain their focus to learn.

In these pictures, students in Donna McGrath's fifth grade class are engaging in balance-auditory-visual- exercises while bouncing racquet balls in a steady rhythm in a variety of patterns. Teachers  will be exploring additional ways to promote movement to enable students to learn more effectively.
