The
Annual Founder’s Day Dinner sponsored by the GESD
Central Council was held on Wednesday night, Feb. 3, at
the Glove Theater. Over 180 attendees were there to
recognize individuals who go above and beyond the call
of duty in serving our schools and most importantly, our
students.
Being honored this year were Janice Blodgett, GESD
Parent Involvement Coordinator, and Loretta Sawyer,
Gloversville YWCA Executive Director, for their
collaboration in creating the Parent Partnership
meetings. The Parent Partnership is another way for
parents to be connected with the school and each other
by attending monthly meetings at the YWCA. Parents and
their children eat pizza and do activities together,
while the parents get important parenting information.
Also being nominated this year were: High School – David
Rogers, Susan Sherman and Anna Lanphere, Middle School –
Holly Cook, Jennifer Flynn and Amy Romeyn, Boulevard –
Susan Retersdorf and Debbie Savage, Kingsborough –
Carmen Navarro, Erica Peck, Jessie O’Brien and Michelle
Marotta, McNab/Meco – Sue Dennie and Cindy Vose, and
Park Terrace – Sandra Geier and Paula Falacco. These
parents and teachers were commended on their dedication
to kids, their work ethic, and their caring commitment
to the Gloversville youth.
The evening was dedicated in memory of Anna Marotta, who
served on the Gloversville PTO for over 50 years. She
was also a Headstart Pre-Kindergarten teacher’s aid and
continued to volunteer and to substitute teach long
after her retirement. A book will be dedicated to each
Gloversville school library in her memory.
