Jo-Ann Samrov
“My years in the Gloversville Enlarged School District were a challenge, but teachers, counselors and family helped shape my life in Gloversville. I learned a respect for others and how our community is so important when you are bringing up a family in a small town. I will always remember my teachers with great respect and admiration. The school district also furnished my children with an excellent education and encouraged them to further their education, which they did. I have very fond memories of my time in the Gloversville schools and community. My family and friends have always been a very important part of my life and they come first, but I have an obligation to give back to my community, which has given me so much.” – JoAnn Samrov
photo of Jo-Ann SamrovMrs. Samrov is a lifelong resident of Gloversville. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1967, and for many years worked for the Fulmont news Distribution Company in Gloversville and Amsterdam as a clerical worker. She was also a teacher aide at Kingsborough Elementary School, and for the last ten years has worked in the attendance office at Gloversville High School.

For more than 12 years, Mrs. Samrov served as the president, co-president and treasurer of the PTA and PTSA at Kingsborough, Gloversville Middle School and Gloversville High School. She has also supervised and worked concession stands for football and basketball games, served on the GMS School-Wide Fund-raiser Committee, and served on the district’s Shared Decision Making Team.

She also volunteers on the Y.M.C.A Membership Committee, for the Cancer Relay for Life, and at the Glove Theatre, where she has helped with the annual telethon.

Mrs. Samrov says the volunteering she and her husband Richard do always focuses on the children of the community. The Y.M.C.A. membership committee makes it possible for our youth to have a place to go, and the Glove Theatre helps to introduce children to the arts and the theatre, she said.

In 1996 Mrs. Samrov received the E.P.I.C. Estee People in Community Award, and in 2004 she received the Appreciation Award from the PTA and PTSA of the school district for service to the children of the community through the years.

Mrs. Samrov and her husband have two sons, Adam and Eric, both of whom graduated from Gloversville High School with 13 years of perfect attendance.
