Looking ahead...new gymnasium is taking shape
In 2007, district residents approved $24.9 million in renovations and improvements, most notably the construction of a new gymnasium at the high school. Work began on this second phase in the Spring of this year and is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2011.
On Feb. 8, 2007, district residents approved $24.9 million in renovations and improvements that were divided into two phases. The first phase consisted of construction at Kingsborough, McNab, and Meco elementary schools and was completed in the fall of 2009. Phase two consists of additional work at the middle and high school, most notably the construction of a new gymnasium at the high school.
In November 2009, the district opened and accepted 60 bids from contractors for phase two of the plan. Bids were awarded based on the recommendations from CSArch, GESD's architecture firm. Construction began in the spring of 2010 with completion expected by the fall of 2011.
