Coaching Requirements

Thank you for your interest in the Gloversville Enlarged School District athletic program. In order to provide quality coaches for secondary school athletes, New York State has established standards required of all coaches, volunteer and paid.

Non-certified teacher, must complete the following to coach in New York State:

square bulletFingerprinting clearance through NYS Education Department.

square bulletCurrent first aid certification (valid for 3 years)

square bulletCurrent CPR/AED (valid for 1 year)

square bulletChild Abuse Course. Available and on-line (fee) or NYS on-line class (free).

square bulletViolence Prevention & Intervention (SAVE) workshop. Available through and on-line.

square bulletCompleted Temporary Coaches license. Done through NYS TEACH. Renewed annually..

square bulletCompletion of Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics in Education course within two (2) years of initial appointment. Available through BOCES and on-line.

square bulletComplete Health Science Applied to Coaching and the Theory and Techniques of Coaching (sport specific) course within three (3) years of initial appointment. Available through BOCES and on-line.

Teacher Coaches (excluding Physical Education) must complete the following to coach in New York State:

square bulletCurrent CPR/AED (valid for 1 year)

square bulletCompletion of Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics in Education course within two (2) years of initial appointment.
